Halau Hula Napuaokalei'ilima
On March 8, 2014, Kumu Hula (master hula teacher) Kehau Chrisman returned to the annual Arizona Aloha Festival in Tempe, Arizona with her dance group Halau Hula Napuaokalei'ilima to perform for their ninth consecutive year.
The halau imported four-thousand plumeria flowers from Hawaii to make leis for all the dancers. On Friday evening, March 7, the members of the halau gathered in Phoenix to string the leis. Then on Saturday they danced twice on the Mountain Stagein the Tempe Lake Park. Here is a 9-minute video of their lei-making and their early morning dance featuring a combination of two hula styles - Kahiko & 'Auana.
Aloha!
